Water Distribution Plumber I works as a crew member performing physically demanding outdoor work and assisting in the installation, repair and maintenance of underground water distribution pipelines, valves and meters. Assignments may be anywhere within the EBMUD service area (North-South Crockett to San Lorenzo, East-West Oakland to San Ramon).
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
Twelfth grade aptitude in math, reading comprehension, mechanical and spatial concepts
The ability to learn the methods, materials, hand and power tools, and equipment used to perform the critical duties of the job
The ability to work cooperatively as a crew member
Water Distribution Plumber I is the entry level classification in this series. Individuals participate in EBMUD’s Plumber Training Academy and normally advance to the Water Distribution Plumber II classification after gaining experience and achieving proficiency which meet the requirements for that classification.

Applicants will be invited to a written test that may include math, reading comprehension, mechanical and spatial concepts (tentatively scheduled for August 13)
Those passing the written test will be invited to a physical abilities test that includes lifting material/equipment, shoveling and assembly/disassembly (tentatively scheduled for late August)
A typical means of acquiring the essential knowledge, skills and abilities for this position is:
Completion of the eighth grade, or its equivalent
Valid Class C California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record
Ability to lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 110 pounds
Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
