Repair of Caterpillar and/or related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines.

Summary:
The Electric Power Generator Service Technician has primary responsibility on site as a lead technician, acting as job liaison between service and the customer. Provides project technical and administrative oversight during assigned service execution on service jobs, through unto their completion. Supports Commercial Services through scheduled job performance on Caterpillar Commercial Engines and Electric Power Generation (EPG) products to include, but not be limited to: Generator sets, automatic transfer switches, uninterruptible power supplies, and switch gear equipment. Individual performs technical duties under service management established process flows & accountability structure. Position maintains the ability and knowledge to provide on the job performance of all duties independently and unassisted on all assigned small to large projects, experience in alternative fuels such as propane, natural gas, landfill gas, and co-generation applications, posses performance & ability in test procedures such as load banking, megger testing, block loading, and paralleling of generators. An EPG Technician primarily works on Caterpillar & competitive product lines providing maintenance & repairs on defective customer equipment. An EPG Technician actively works as a team leader, a mentor in the daily performance of their duties, and provides regional service support as required by our customer's needs. Position demands multilevel coordination, concise documentation, and complex technical communications between local service staff and our customers.
A successful candidate is required to have the technical ability to inspect, service, troubleshoot, test, analyze, diagnose, document, and remedy deficiencies through repair on electric powered equipment, components, and operating systems extending across multiple Caterpillar and competitor product lines. This includes the ability to accurately define, measure, identify, investigate, repair, & resolve customer's equipment complaints & malfunctions. Upon being trained one should be able to discern with relative accuracy between actual covered product warranty and non-covered repairs based upon the cause of failure. Individual should be able to become proficient at providing up-sell opportunities on all Caterpillar products and services offered through Quinn Power Systems Commercial Engine Services.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
While others may be assigned, essential duties and responsibilities include:
Assists the EPG Supervisor by maintaining appropriate project coverage; as the responsible lead technician for daily oversight and productivity of assigned jobs.
Maintain the ability to manage, organize, plan, and delegate specific courses of action through until completion to achieve assigned objectives and business unit mandates.
Assists the EPG Supervisor by communicating and updating project action plans to the customer and Supervisor frequently to ensure that we are meeting project commitments as communicated
Identify customer, verbally communicate issue, write report on issue, and gain a written pre-approval for quote estimates through the Supervisor on any additional costs outside the approved scope of work from the original project job, prior to service execution, or the order of any parts; whenever there is need for additional scopes of work and related charges to be added to the customer by way of a change order to the existing purchase order.
Communicates with EPG Supervisor as needed for clarification during the review process of service sales jobs and time cards, to ensure that all parts, labor, and miscellaneous charges are captured and accurately accounted for and posted on the appropriate job segments.
Executes tasks of pre-assigned & emergency work orders by schedule date, customer name, service scope, locates staged parts, checks for special instructions, travels to job site, performs job, provides detailed computerized service reports, time cards, digital photos, makes additional recommendations, & maintains tagged parts required for acceptance of warranty. Maintains company owned service vehicle, ensuring timely maintenance, repair, & clean appearance to support a professional image, to be documented by company hand receipt
Maintains company owned property such as: laptop computer, printer, MIFI, specialty tools, keys, all to be documented by company hand receipt
Purchases cellular telephone for use under Company reimbursement program as required.
Maintains basic personal tooling requirements and has the ability to safely operate and instruct subordinate technicians on the use of different forms of hand, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric tools required for job performance, to include: a digital volt ohmmeter (DVM) and other specialized electrical test equipment commonly used in the performance of the electric power technician job role.
Provides and maintains a detailed inventory list of personally owned hand tools and test equipment for insurance purposes upon hire.

Follows all applicable industry and regulatory agency guidelines in performance of job, while adhering to the company handbook for consistent policy guidelines as provided for clarity and maximum performance standards for all employees.
Creates & provides daily service & time reports
When required; Maintains and forwards any federal manifests or milk-run tickets required for Non-RCRA Hazardous Waste disposal and reporting to the local service coordinator at the property waste is transported to in order to meet EPA & State mandated review and reporting requirements.
Keep a daily vehicle safety inspection & maintenance log when assigned vehicle requires.
Must maintain excellent attendance and punctuality with the ability to work overtime, travel, and
occasionally lodge overnight, as dictated by projects, workloads, and the target completion dates.
Provide cross training within assigned duties and work processes to build a solid team.
Maintains general knowledge of Caterpillar Insurance Programs and warranty documentation procedures
Develop and maintain a close positive working relationships and open communications with all associates, sales, service, credit, marketing, technical departments, and vendors
Maintain product knowledge and procedures for all existing and new products.
Additional duties may be assigned by management for participation within special company committees and Six Sigma project focus groups.
Must follow Company owned vehicle policy
Maintains & utilizes Company provided training & equipment for OSHA 1910 Electrical, NFPA70E Arc Flash, Lock Out Tag Out, and uses provided training and Personal Protective Equipment with profiency.
Performs daily electrical safety & planning meetings as well as site inspections before starting on jobs.
Completes monthly assigned Company Pure Safety courses on time.
Performs Company and individual elective courses with the Dealer performance Center for professional knowledge and career advancement opportunities
Ability to develop as a mentor or lead role technician.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.

Education and Qualifications:
Must have completed High School or General Equivalency diploma. Additionally, qualifying trade certificates or related electrical industry degrees as applicable. Individual posses an EPG technical training background on Caterpillar and (or) competitor product lines within the commercial EPG market; having the ability to learn and understand basic Caterpillar warranty and policy procedures. A desired minimum of five years experience performing CAT EPG product service, repair, or start-up / commissioning, with a parallel experience of fifteen years industrial electrical, electrical analysis, power generation, or the management’s deemed equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires the ability to train and work on a career path towards qualifying as an Electric Power Analyst. A valid California State general electrician’s certification is a plus. Must have excellent organizational, verbal, & written communication skills, advanced in computer soft skills with operational functionality on software such as: Microsoft Suites (Excel, Word, Powerpoint), & web -based applications. Must be able to learn and operate Caterpillar applications under CAT Web, CWS, SIS Web, Info-Cast, TMI, Electronic Technician, and STW. Must hold a valid California class C driver's license in good standing to meet our insurability guidelines, have the ability to tow a Class C rated trailer when required, and qualify for hazardous waste transportation license endorsements if required. Must have the physical ability to lift 70 lbs.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One-year certificate or Associates degree from a community college or technical school; Minimum five plus year's of CAT dealer experience and ten year's heavy equipment industry experience or equivalent education and experience.
