LENAX is looking for a Senior Cost Engineer, who will have a strong focus on business analytics, reporting and data sharing, using Power BI, VEO, cBIM, and have knowledge and experience working with relational databases (SQL, preferred), HTML, Revit, AutoCAD and SharePoint..  The successful candidate will have proven cost engineering experience with complex, multi-phase, multi-million dollar construction and/or renovation projects. General position duties include: preparation of detailed cost reports, review and analysis of project expenditures, interfacing with project managers and subject matter experts in order to maintain accurate forecasts, and preparation of supplemental reporting materials for budget presentations.  In addition, the successful candidate will be one who demonstrates professional initiative, understanding of core cost control principles, and the capacity to work on a fast-paced and passionate team.

 

Position Description Summary

The Cost Engineer reports to the Cost Engineer Lead. The successful candidate will have proven cost engineering experience with complex, multi-phase, multi-million dollar construction and/or renovation projects, and with knowledge and experience with Microsoft Power BI.  The general job duties include: Prepares detailed computer generated cost reports, charts and diagrams; Provides analysis and review of cost/budget expenditure and maintains cost control reports; Promptly reports anticipated cost overages or other unsatisfactory cost elements; Maintains liaison with Data Processing in developing support for network calculations, printouts and cost reports, and other cost related services. The Cost Engineer is the liaison between the Element/Project Manager, Project Controls and Capital Budget Manager and team, communicating project cost data, analysis and reports.

 

Key Identifiers:

  • Five-to-ten (5 – 10) years’ cost engineering experience, with three-to-five (3 – 5) years’ in direct support of an active construction project.
  • Advanced proficiency in Office 365, Power BI, VEO, and cBIM is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with a large-scale, cost reporting system is required. Experience with Prolog is highly desirable.

 

Essential Job Duties:  The Cost Engineer duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepares detailed compute generated cost reports, charts and diagrams.
  • Provides analysis and review of cost/budget expenditure and maintains cost controls reports.
  • Reports anticipated cost overages or other unsatisfactory cost elements.
  • Develop, configure, and support collection of project source data (including: PROLOG, VEO, and other 3rd party systems).
  • Develop data templates.
  • Develop and create data queries and workflow for source data from various systems.
  • Liaison with data processing in developing support for network calculations, printouts and cost reports, and other related services.
  • Liaison between the Element/Project Manager, Project Controls and Capital Budget Manager and team, communicating project cost data, analysis and reports.
  • Provide progress reporting documents and briefing materials as required. Develop creative reporting tools to communicate complex project sequencing and/or progress assessments.
  • Works with, provides information for review, and gathers input from Contract Administrators, Project Controls, Budget Managers and Element/Project Managers.
  • Administer LAWA-controlled project systems (including: Office365, Power BI, VEO, cBIM).
  • Interface with stakeholder, user, and project groups about data requirements and provide training as needed.
  • Other duties as identified.

 

Hardware/Software Knowledge:  The Cost Engineer must have a strong, working knowledge-of and experience utilizing the following applications:

  • Office 365
  • Power BI
  • VEO
  • cBIM
  • Advanced skills in MS Office Suite—emphasis on MS Excel, MS Access and MS Power BI Word, Excel, Power BI
  • Intermediate skills in Revit, AutoCAD (C3D), BlueBeam, and SharePoint
  • Intermediate skills in HTML and Website Development
  • Demonstrated proficiency with a large-scale, cost-reporting system is required. Knowledge and experience with Prolog is highly preferred.

 

Professional Experience Level/Other Qualifications

  • Experience with Design-Build and Construction Management at Risk delivery methods is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand technical and complicated construction program and the ability to communicate progress to both technical- and management-level personnel.
  • Ability to work with others, a self-starter with results-driven focus.

 

Education/Training

  • Minimum BA in Engineering (Civil or Mechanical, preferred), Construction Management, Architecture, or equivalent;
  • Minor/Major emphasis in Information Technology

 

Element-Specific Requirements/Notes

  • May assume other duties, as required/needed
  • May work overtime, as required/needed
  • May be required to work various shifts, as needed
