Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Plant Engineering Supervisor will oversee all operations of the maintenance team consisting of 21 persons across four craft areas: mechanical, systems/electrical, metrology, machining.  They will drive long term improvements in team operations across 3 shifts 7 days a week, providing guidance on corrective maintenance action plans, and executing direct resource management for immediate short term production needs, in the support of overall equipment uptime.  Own and be accountable for metrics directly pertaining to the optimized operation of production manufacturing equipment and metrology compliance.  Responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, compliance, quality, technical skill development, and equipment reliability.

 

 Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide technical direction to craftspeople and assist in diagnosing equipment problems as required to expedite work of unit
  • Train craftspeople in job requirements, equipment basics and basic technical skills, and recommend training programs as needed to develop and maintain capabilities of workforce; administer certification and re-certification programs
  • Coordinate work schedules with appropriate business units and other Plant Engineering units to expedite work, minimize interruptions, and assure effective utilization of workforce
  • Ensure appropriate use of CMMS and/or other computerized maintenance record systems to contribute to efficiency of operations, accuracy of procedures and availability
  • Evaluate equipment and maintenance history to determine and establish appropriate preventive maintenance requirements, and/or to recommend predictive Maintenance programs for optimizing effectiveness of maintenance procedures and maximizing equipment reliability
  • Provides direct supervision to assigned employees through leadership, coaching, training, and  development through the following: allocating work assignments, review of progressing in achieving objectives, managing compensation, performance appraisals, diversity, disability, recruiting and hiring, employee issues, all relevant employee data, safety, behavior, and payroll.  Understands and enforces corporate and location policies and procedures, and ensures compliance to all applicable regulations and laws.
  • Acts as liaison for Corrective Maintenance (CM) action item updates and coordinates resource allocation of personnel to support engineering driven CM execution
  • Responsible for reviewing all major downtime events, providing detailed downtime cause analysis, and repeat downtime mitigation plan; solicits team input for corrective action
  • Ensure maintenance Conscious Engineering (MCE) considerations are raised during project team meetings as maintenance representative
  • Oversees calibration Program and ensures metrology actions are in alignment with end user schedules
  • Analyzes spare part stock for appropriateness to support minimization of inventory; assesses inventory justification requests and non-routine purchase requests  for appropriateness, assessing need for stock, reorder points, risk and cost

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma/GED or higher from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a manufacturing plant environment
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University
  • Previous plant engineering experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant
  • Experience in technical development and training of employees
  • Project leadership experience
