Job Description 

POSITION: Concrete Batch Plant Electrician/Mechanic


LOCATION: All Syar Concrete Ready MixFacilities

SUPERVISOR: Plant Maintenance Foreman/Operations Manager

1. GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:


•The electrician must have a minimum of 3 years of experience at the journeyman level in the commercial/heavy industrial fields
•The electrician will report to the Plant Maintenance Foreman and/or the Operations Manager.
•The electricians primary responsibility will be to troubleshoot and remedy any issues preventing the concrete batch plant and supporting equipment from operating or operating properly and up to full replacement of such circuits and components.
•The electrician must be able to understand the troubleshooting process for both 480v/3phase power and lower voltage single phase power.
•The electrician must have a good knowledge base on control and signaling circuits and what components those circuits are operating.
•The electrician must understand the importance of how to work safely around energized circuits, equipment and equipment that energizes/de-energizes automatically.
•The electrician must understand the importance of arc flash and how to identify the potential environment for one to occur. In addition the electrician must know what PPE is to be worn when in these potential environments.
•The electrician must be open to flexible hours and potential overtime (days/nights/weekends etc.)

The position operates out of a service truck with a compressor, welder and oxy-acetylene tanks. The Plant Electrician/Mechanic troubleshoots/repairs electrical problems as the primary duty and responsibility. When not utilized in that role, the Electrician/ Mechanic will back up the regular Plant Mechanics with other duties necessary to keep the concrete batch plants in reliable working order. Other duties/responsibilities include: preventative maintenance on all powered fixed and portable equipment, dust collection equipment, water service equipment, material feed equipment, computer and automation Equipment. The position will require the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, welding, cutting and fabricating, man lifts, cranes, backhoes, excavators, front end loaders, hydraulic lifts and other equipment to erect, modify or keep multiple plants in working order. This may be at ground level or at heights in excess of 60 feet above ground. The maintenance involves removing and replacing parts and equipment, cutting and welding, drilling and bolting. The essential functions of the position involve, but are not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

•Conducts thorough routine inspections of the equipment before commencing work. Plans the job including arranging for all the necessary help, parts and equipment to be on hand to do any particular job.
•Assess, understand and implement various required safety steps, plans and equipment necessary to do the job in compliance with Federal, State, and Company safety protocols.
•Understand and be proficient in gas and electric welding.
•Be capable of using and being under stood on company radios and telephones.
•Climbs in excess of 60’ above the ground to work on various pieces of equipment by means of caged ladders, stairways and/or man lifts,
•Conducts inspections and maintenance as needed on all safety guarding up to designing and fabricating new guarding to protect all life from coming into contact with moving/rotating parts used at all Syar Concrete LLC locations,

Non-essential functions
•Some overhead and awkward position work may be temporarily excluded

The hours of work for this position depend on plant availability and work load. This is a non-exempt position.

This position operates and performs maintenance duties at all Syar Concrete Plant locations.


III. JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Safety Requirements:
1.Employee is required to observe all safety standards and plant operational procedures.
2.Employee must pass a pulmonary functions test and be able to wear a respirator.
3.Employee must wear steel toes work boots, hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, and fall protection


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

•Be capable of reading and understanding written technical literature and be proficient in mathematics (including algebra if operating a crane is required)
•Ability to communicate fluently in English.
•Ability to give and receive information on the phone.
•Good hand/eye coordination.
•Ability to climb up and down ladders and steps repeatedly throughout the day.
