EBMUD Maintenance Machinists perform highly skilled mechanical maintenance, fabrication, repair and installation work on a variety of industrial plant equipment such as pumps,valves, compressors, generators, turbines, chemical feed equipment, plumbing systems and related mechanical equipment. Machining work at EBMUD relies on the manual use of machine shop equipment rather than CNC machines. EBMUD’s Maintenance Machinists are not comparable to Machine Operator or Production Machinist positions with most firms.
The ideal candidate for this position is a skilled, journey-level Machinist with shop and field experience, knowledgeable in setting up, using, and operating such equipment as a drill press, lathe, key-seater, surface grinder, mill and bolt threading machine in order to modify and fabricate parts by hand; able todiagnose and repair complex mechanical problems, and perform field machining on large turbines, valves and other equipment.
A typical means of acquiring the essential knowledge, skills and abilities for this position is:
1. Completion of the twelfth grade, or its equivalent and EITHER:
2a. Attainment of recognized journey level status as a Maintenance Machinist or Millwright with work experience primarily in maintenance/repair rather than limited to production machine tool operations; OR
2b. Two years and ten months of recognized sub-journey level status as a Maintenance Machinist or Millwright performing more specialized mechanical maintenance and repair and machine tool operations requiring greater skill, more precision, and a higher degree of trade knowledge with greater independence of action,
Sufficient strength to lift heavy parts and tools weighing up to 90 pounds, sufficient agility to climb ladders to a height of 40 feet, and sufficient stamina to perform strenuous work for an extended period of time.
Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety ofweather conditions and work overtime as needed.
