Today, we're seeking a Development Technician to add to our Soft Goods production team. The person selected for this role will primarily be responsible for providing training and guidance to department employees in the development of manufacturing processes and techniques.  Essential duties & responsibilities for the position include, but aren't limited to, the following:

  • Performs coordination and liaison with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Planning, production and Production Control departments on all new production releases.
  • Responsible for the production and acceptance of all first articles developed within manufacturing departments.
  • Responsible for the development of cut sizes, patterns and ordering of dink dies as required.
  • Maintains a log and files on each new production release.
  • Trains or assists the Foreman in the training of production personnel on all new established methods, processes, techniques, blueprint and planning reading, and the use of precision measuring instruments.
  • Builds or assists in the building of all first article and quality test production.
  • Ensures that all first article and quality test parts are checked, accepted, documented and delivered in accordance with schedule requirements.
  • Develops or assists in the development of patterns and shop aids to facilitate production of new and established parts in the most safe and efficient manner to support on time delivery.
  • Develops or assists in the development of process sheets, cut sheets, manufacturing specifications, tooling lists, shop aid lists and bills of materials.
  • Checks process sheets, cut sheets, drawings, bills of materials, tooling lists, shop lists and patterns; completes and packages to Production Control for full production scheduling.
  • Issues status reports concerning progress, delays, shortages, discrepancies, etc., as required and requested.
  • Reviews, investigates and reports findings on all established products as requested.
  • Supports and assists with all Safety Programs and initiatives.
  • Supports and assists with all lean/cost saving initiatives (such as 6S, 6 Sigma, etc.) undertaken by the company.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Successful candidates will also possess the following education & experience: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in manufacturing or fabrication.

  • Ability to train and motivate others to perform required job duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Proficient with computerized systems.
  • Experience in soft goods manufacturing and knowledge of various rubbers and coated fabrics.
