TRC is seeking a Civil Engineer proficient in Structural Materials, and knowledgeable in construction materials inspection and testing (CMT), to support projects with the California Department of Transportation and other transportation authorities in Northern California, Southern California including the Sacramento, San Francisco and Los Angeles metropolitan areas.

Job Duties:

  • Familiarity with Caltrans Standard Specifications and related documents
  • Familiarity with Construction Materials Standards, Specifications and Codes (AISC, ACI, ASTM, AWS, IBC)
  • Ability to review plans, specifications and project special provisions to verify compliance to material quality
  • Familiarity with Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for construction materials
  • Ability to attend client meetings related to pre-construction, pre-fabrication and other construction meetings as needed to monitor and ensure project meets quality requirements
  • Ability to work with, supervise and direct field inspection personnel as part of the verification process to ensure quality standards are being met at the project site or in a fabrication facility
  • Familiarity with sampling and testing of construction materials (concrete, structural steel, pavements) in accordance with project standards and specifications
  • Ability to write technical reports with photographs, data analysis and other graphical representations
  • Ability to develop and maintain client relations


Job Requirements: 

  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering (ABET Accredited)
  • 0-2 years minimum project experience (transportation, construction, construction materials testing a plus)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Word Processing, Spreadsheet and Portable Document Formats (PDF)
  • Understanding of CAD programs related to reviewing of engineering plans
  • Ability to travel domestically and overseas from California Offices for short periods to material fabrication facilities
